Florida-Design-24-1

While in Salzburg, Austria last month I was excited to find the current issue of Florida Design magazine. It was such a thrill to be traveling through Europe, open the magazine and see my work featured. This widely esteemed publication and design industry exemplar can be found in book stores and newsstands nationally, as well as, internationally. Please find me in Volume 24#1 on pages 280-286.

Mantels by Design as Seen on KUTV, Channel 2 Fresh Living

DSC_1197A mantel is typically focal point and is often the strongest architectural feature in the space. It should suit the space in terms of scale and design language. A few tips: allow for at least a 10 inch depth mantel and install an outlet on mantel shelf where it cannot be seen for holiday décor or lamps.

I generally prefer TVs away from the mantel on a side wall or cabinetry if it’s suitable for viewing. Generally this is best when the space is formal or when the mantel is high. Typically I suggest a TV above the mantel if the space is casual and mantel is 62 inches above the finished floor or lower. Above the mantel is also suitable if the majority of viewing is standing or lying down. I have on occasion placed TVs below a mantel where they seem to disappear.  This works best in a wide feature, where the TV is viewed from a seating position and in a room where TV isn’t the primary function. I have long ago gotten over the compulsion to hide a TV.
